Laura Beck, a 2012 graduate of Canfield High School, has continued her softball career at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa. As a freshman, she led the 2013 Golden Tornados offense with a team high batting average of .387 with 48 hits, 11 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 24 RBI.
Geneva completed the 2013 season with a conference record of 14-4 and qualified to participate in the NCAA PAC tournament. The team finished second with a 1-3 loss in the championship game to Thomas More College. Beck highlighted the first tournament game with a two-run homer and four RBI. As a result of her conference performance, she was selected to the PAC first team All-Conference and the PAC All-Tournament team. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association organization also voted her to the NFCA All-Central Region third team.
Top honors for Beck occurred during the team's post-season trip to Troutville, Va., for the 2013 NCCAA Women's Softball National Championship. She was selected to the national All-American second team and All-East first team. According to Geneva College head softball coach Van Zanic, Beck is the first freshman in school history to attain All-American honors.
