Dustin Brode, a 2010 graduate of Canfield High School and now going into his senior year at Harvard University, broke Harvard's shot put record with a throw of 18.20 meters at the outdoor Heptagonal Ivy League Championship. The record was set in 1969.

At the recent awards banquet, he was elected team captain. Also, he received the Beyond the Call of Duty Award for being the only athlete to compete in three events, and the Little Shot Put Award. He also had the privilege of being congratulated by the 1969 Harvard shot put record holder, Dick Benka.

On May 24, he broke his own school record with a throw of 18.45 (60 feet, 6.5 inches) at the NCAA East Regional Track and Field finals in Greensboro, N.C., and qualified for the NCAA National Meet in Eugene Oregon on June 5.
