Canfield High School golfer Olivia Pacheco, daughter of Stephen and Raquel Pacheco, became the 17th golfer to continue her athletic career in college. She signed her letter of intent on Monday, May 13 to play for the Baldwin Wallace University Lady Yellow Jackets next year.
Pacheco said she started golfing in the sixth grade because of some friends who were golfing. Her first year she played for the Sandwich Factory Golf League. In seventh grade, she joined the Canfield Junior Golf League that coach Diane McCall had organized to get middle school students interested in the sport. It also served as a feeder for the high school team.
After two years on the junior team, Pacheco entered high school and continued her golfing career, showing improvement each year.

Joining Canfield girls golf team member Olivia Pacheco as she signed her letter of intent with Baldwin Wallace University to continue her golf career, were her parents Rachel and Stephen Pacheco (seated), and standing: grandparents Will and Aida Pacheco, freshman sister Victoria, and her CHS golf coach Diane McCall.
"Her senior year she really stepped up her game to the next level," said coach McCall.
Pacheco's improved play helped take the Lady Cardinals to the All American Conference American Division championship this past season.
Off the golf course, Pacheco is active in student council and has distinguished herself by volunteering to sing the National Anthem at most of the Canfield athletic events. Her hard work and dedication helped gain her several scholarships to Baldwin Wallace College. She received the Choose Ohio First STEM scholarship as well as a scholarship from the Ohio Trooper's Coalition.
"I like the school and what it has to offer," Pacheco said. "I plan to major in biology."
McCall was proud of the fact Olivia is number 17 from her golf teams to continue to play in college. McCall has been coaching the past 16 years at CHS and can lay claim to a 28.8 percent from her teams that continue their golf career in college.
