Anna Warhol of Poland, an eighth-grader at Glenwood Middle School, has qualified to compete in the Level 9 National Gymnastics competition being held May 3 to 5 in Battle Creek, Mich. She trains at Youngstown Gymnastics Center in Boardman, under coaches Sandy Sabo and Chad Cleland.
Warhol qualified during the recent Level 9 and Level 10 Regional Championships in Lansing, Mich, where she placed second All-Around in her age division scoring a 37.475. Only the top six All-Arounders in each age group qualify to this USA Gymnastics National Competition and this is Warhol's second time qualifying to the team.
She will be accompanied by ninth-grader Rachel Gurgiolo of Edinburg, Pa.

Youngstown Gymnastics Center Level 8 competitors Lauren Manski of Salem, Ashley Jones of Canfield, Mya Kasten of Canfield, Megan Janak of Boardman, Tamsin Day of Boardman, and Nicole Ruse of Poland, are heading to Bowling Green State University on May 4 for a regional competition.
In the regional competition, both Warhol and Gurgiolo won the floor exercise event, with Warhol earning a 9.55. They were both named Regional Floor Exercise champions.
"The discipline and time management skills that the sport of gymnastics teaches, helps students like Anna and Rachel to do so well in their studies," said coach Sabo.
These girls both began training gymnastics as preschoolers and have both been competing for more than six years. Coach Sabo said these two gymnasts are two of the hardest working and most dedicated and focused gymnasts she has ever worked with and they are both very worthy of earning a spot on the national team.
Also competiting in the Regional Competition was Jamie Sklenar, 14, of Canfield, who placed 16th all-around.
While the Level 9 girls compete in nationals, the Level 8 Regional competition will be held in Bowling Green State University. Youngstown Gymnastics Center has six level 8's that will be traveling to compete in this competition, including Megan Janak, 13, of Boardman; Lauren Manski, 13, of Salem; Mya Kasten, 14, of Canfield; Tamsin Day, 13, of Boardman; Nicole Ruse, 15, of Poland; and Ashley Jones, 12, of Canfield. These girls will compete on the Ohio State Regional Teams in their respective age groups from Ohio that will compete against teams from Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. The girls qualified to this competition from the Ohio State Meet that was held in Lancaster, on April 6 and 7. At the state competition, all of these girls had to of scored above a 34.00 All-Around to qualify to this regional competition.
