Linda Dohar Awad of Canfield, was honored as the Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance's Gem of the Year during a joint dinner meeting with the Medical Society on April 19. The award is given to a member that serves the Medical Alliance and the community with distinction.
Awad has been a member of the Alliance for 30 years, serving on the board, chairing the International Dinner, Christmas Tea and New Member's Luncheon, as well as co-chairing the Halloween party and Charity Fashion Show.
Awad holds a bachelor's degree in speech and telecommunications from Youngstown State University. She was an associate producer of Dan Ryan's "Town Hall" PBS TV series, and associate producer and news reporter for the news magazine show "Final Edition" also on PBS. She has also appeared in various radio and television commercials. Additionally, she has been a medical practice manager for 30 years.

She has also been involved with the Ohio High School Speech League as a coach and as a judge on the local, state and national level.
She is a past president of the Mount Lebanon Society and served as a chairperson of the 75th anniversary celebration of St. Maron's Church. She also co-authored the book, "Immigrations Past and Present and Their Descendents," in 1987, which is now part f the Smithsonian Institute's permanent collection. She is currently writing a book about the Maronite community in the Mahoning Valley upon the 100th anniversary of the church.
Awad also has served on the social committee at St. Maron and has taught Maronite Christian Formation for the past 20 years,
She and her husband, Dr. Mounir Awad live in Canfield and have four children: Dr. Marie Awad-Alexander (attorney Louis Alexander), Dr. Diana Awad Scrocco (Dr. John David Scrocco), Jeanine and Michele. She is the daughter of Michael J. and Julie Dohar.
