Stop by and pet a llama from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30 outside of Sears, 6009 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, to help the Llucky Llama 4-H Club. For the 10th consecutive year, the club will be collecting monetary and nonperishable food donations for Second Harvest Food Bank's Harvest for Hunger campaign.
Since 2003, the Llucky Llama 4-H Club has raised funds to help feed hungry families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. They have raised more than $4,100 for the Harvest for Hunger campaign, which has enabled the Food Bank to provide more than $61,500 worth of food to hungry people in the community.
The Llucky Llama 4-H Club has been in existence for 13 years and averages 15 to 20 members per year, ranging in age from eight to 18 years old. In addition to working with animals, youngsters are also given the opportunity to explore other interests including cooking, wood working, model rocketry and computers.
Harvest for Hunger is a monthlong food and funds drive that takes place each March to help replenish food bank shelves during the spring and summer months when donations taper off. All food collected and funds raised help feed hungry families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
