On Feb. 23, Austintown Township showed what the community is really made of. On that Saturday night, the Fitch girls softball team and the Fitch boys baseball team held a "Night at the Races" at St. Anne's Church hall. More than 300 tickets were sold for this second annual event. Besides the 60 baskets at the Chinese auction, there were also several items up for bid in a silent auction. All auction donations, as well as the selling of advertising for the program and selling of horses, came before the event even started.
That night, more money was raised for the two student athletic organizations through the 10 races, an auction race that you had to see to believe, and a 50/50 raffle that had the winner leaving with $700.
The parents and students would like to thank everyone that came out that night and a special thank you to all the wonderful sponsors. See you next year for another fun night for a wonderful cause.
