The Northeastern Ohio Scholastic Award Exhibition showcases outstanding student artwork for grades seven through 12 from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties.
Gianna Parella, a senior at Cardinal Mooney received Gold key for her sepia toned photograph "Lilacs." Her work will go on to New York to be judged at the national level. Silver Keys were awarded to seniors Nicole Young, for her nine-page comic book layout "Take 10" and Jennifer Sklenar for her sepia and color tinted photograph, "A Path Less Taken." Junior Erik Engartner received a Silver Key for his traditional silver photograph, "Journey to the Light."
Honorable mentions were received by Ryan Ohlin of New Middletown, in drawing; Rachael Rosa of Boardman, in drawing; Kara Simon of North Jackson, in drawing and painting; Alex Green of Salem, in drawing; Tiffany Komara of Poland, in photography; Jacob Kowalczyk of Struthers, in photography; Carly Shutrump of Boardman, in photography; Makenna Ozenghar of Youngstown, in photography, Chris Brandenstein of Youngstown, in ceramics; and Dominic DiMuzio of Boardman, in ceramics. The art work was displayed at Youngstown State University's Bliss Hall Gallery in early February.
