The Austintown Generational Enrichment Committee is moving forward on several projects for the residents of Austintown. One involves a dance floor and the other, fireworks.
According to A.G.E. Chairman Mark Cole, the committee has submitted a grant application for a portable dance floor.
"We are looking at a 24-foot-by-24-foot portable dance floor," Cole said. "It can be used at the Senior Center, or can be taken to other events in Austintown, including the schools. It will be for everyone in Austintown."
While awaiting to hear on the grant, Cole said another thing that members of A.G.E. is trying to do is bring back fireworks to the township in July. The fireworks used to take place at Fitch Stadium before AMS was constructed. Now with the other schools on campus, there is not enough open area to put on the fireworks display, but Cole said it could be moved to Austintown Township Park on the evening of July 3. He has teamed up with Austintown Trustee Jim Davis in an attempt to bring the fireworks back this summer.
"It will take around $20,000," Cole said. "We need donations to make that happen."
He said A.G.E. will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, March 4 at the Senior Center to discuss the fireworks and other coming projects. He said anyone interested in getting involved with the community is welcome to attend.
"I always tell everyone that teamwork divides the effort and multiplies the effect, so we just need more people to do more awesome things in Austintown," Cole said. "I am asking all of you to invite as many people that you can, so that we can grow our group and move forward on more projects to benefit Austintown in 2013."
