The Boardman boys indoor track team competed at Kent State University on Saturday, Jan. 19 during the first meet of the season.
Highlighting the Spartan success was senior Nathan Jones who finished second in the 60 meter dash in 7.14 a time, which qualifies him to the New Balance Indoor National Meet for the second consecutive season.
Also on Saturday, junior Mark Hadley placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58. The 4x800 meter relay team of Hadley, junior Justin Maroni, freshman Adam Deeley, and freshman Nathan Hadley placed third with a time of 8:43. Nathan Hadley was also 15th overall in the 1600 in a time of 4:50.
In the 60 meter hurdles, all four Spartans placed led by senior Will Birchfield in third place at 8.88. He was followed by junior Jeff Bean in fourth at 9.15, junior Matt Scott in eighth at 10.37, and junior Dion Santiago 10th place at 10.49. Bean was also 10th overall in the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches.
In the pole vault, junior Steve Brown was ninth overall at 11-.75 inches, while in the shot put senior Chris Riwniak was 14th with a throw of 41-9. Sophomore Josh Suarez placed 15th in the long jump at 16 feet.
