They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway, and shining equally bright will be the Canfield High School choirs as they present the 100 Years of Broadway Concert, with a pre-concert tasting event featuring local restaurants.
According to Kelly Scurich, CHS choir director, the dinner theater event, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 in the high school auditorium, will include music based on 100 years of Broadway featuring 160 voices from Chambers Ensemble, One Octave Higher Ensemble and Concert Choirs as they celebrate the beloved tunes of Broadway.
Sharing that she usually adapts a Broadway show with narration and acting for all the high school choirs, "We perform music from that particular show," said Scurich, adding that past performances include "Brigadoon," and "The Lion King."

Canfield High School students Megan Factor, Richie Jenkins, Olivia Roy, Zach Davison and Michele Whiteleather, all members of the Canfield Choir, finish their rehearsal for 100 years of Broadway, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 19 at the high school. Prior to the concert, 14 area restaurants will serve up their specialties at the “Backstage at Broadway” tasting event.
Working ahead of schedule and therefore opting to try something different, Scurich said, "This is a work arranged by Mac Huff with over 50 musicals represented," adding that it will be more of a concert version in comparison to what they have done in the past.
With the boosters also eager to try something out of the ordinary, a new addition as part of this year's pre-show, will be "Backstage at Broadway," a fundraiser where various restaurants and food establishments will be invited to bring a tasting menu of their best items. Eager to share their featured menu delicacies at the event: A La Cart Catering, Zenobia, Smoke House BBQ, Chick-Fil-A, Southern Park Mall, Nicolinni's Restaurant, Angenetta's, Bread Chef, Culinary Arts Center, Bob Evans, Canfield, Giant Eagle, Canfield, Flaming Ice Cube, Inner Circle Canfield, and Phoenix Restaurant.
The "Backstage at Broadway" tasting event, tickets for which are only available in advance by calling 330-702-7058, will begin at 6 p.m. and will continue until concert time. Concert only tickets are available at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for students/children and will be available at the door. The package price for the Backstage at Broadway Tasting and Concert are $20 per person. No tasting tickets will be sold at the door.
