Meeting brings community together in celebration

January 17, 2013

Serving as several reminders of why Boardman is still considered "A Nice Place to Call Home," Boardman Township trustees held a meeting Monday, Jan. 14 at which several township employees were sworn in, and a township couple offered a proclamation for going above and beyond the call of neighborly duty.

A light agenda amidst a standing room only meeting gave way to celebration as community members, family, and friends witnessed the recognition of numerous new beginnings.

Numerous township employees were sworn in at the meeting including fire Capt. William Glaser and firefighter Nathan Miller, who comes from the Stow Fire Department. Boardman Township's three newest police officers, Richard Kridler, Shawn McClellan, and Jacob Lape, coming from Beaver Township PD, East Liverpool PD, and McDonald PD, respectively, were also sworn in.

Boardman Township’s three newest police officers, Richard Kridler coming from Beaver Township PD; Shawn McClellan from East Liverpool PD; and Jacob Lape coming from McDonald PD, were sworn in during the Jan. 14 meeting of the Boardman Township trustees. The three new hires bring nine out of 10 that were promised with August 2011 levy money.

Recognized for heroics, township residents Jeff and Wendy Thomas received a proclamation for their selfless decisions and quick response in an emergency. On Dec. 17, upon hearing of an emergency involving their neighbor Scott Hadley, the Thomas' performed lifesaving CPR while awaiting paramedics. During the meeting, Hadley took the opportunity to thank his neighbors personally for their efforts.

Also commended for their actions on that fateful day were Capt. Brian Barber, firefighter Jon Lewis, and firefighter Scott Hanlin for performing purposeful, distinctive, and successful lifesaving acts on another being.
