Having won its first seven regular season varsity tournaments, which included three impressive performances according to team coach Jeremy Hamilton, the Canfield Speech and Debate Team has thus far earned a combined 197 individual trophies for their performances.
Competing at Boardman High School on Nov. 30 through Dec. 1, the CHS speech and debate team earned first place of the 16 teams in attendance, beating second place Howland by a margin of 191 to 71, and following that successful showing at Boardman, moved on the following weekend to compete at GlenOak, a competition which Hamilton described as one of the premier debate tournaments in Ohio.
"At the end of the day, Canfield had the tournament champion in Lincoln-Douglas Debate," said Hamilton of CHS team member Andrik Massaro at the GlenOak competition.

Hamilton went on to share that on Dec. 8, part of the team competed at Canton McKinley, where, of the 22 teams competing, Canfield finished in first place, beating last year's state champions from Massillon Jackson by a score of 68-63.
Rejoining as a team, later in the month, the entire team competed at Howland, where, of the 23 schools in attendance, Hamilton said Canfield finished in first place, defeating second place Austintown-Fitch by a score of 112-101.
