Boardman Glenwood's eighth-grade girls dropped a tough game to Warren, 22-21 on Dec. 18. Lauren Pavlansky led the Spartans with eight points, Simone Comer had six points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Halowell had four points and Aniyuh Spann had three. The Lady Spartans were 2-2 on the year following the contest.
Boardman Glenwood's seventh-grade girls lost an exciting game to Warren Gold, 22-9. Leading scorers were Cassie Stitt with four, Ashley Clark and Carly Amedola at two each, and Casey Zaitzew with one.
BGMS Sweeps Warren Gold
The boys eighth-grade basketball team beat Warren Gold, 37-33 on Dec. 18. The team came back from trailing by eight points in the third quarter and was led in scoring by J.R. Ryan with 12 points, Mark Smaldino with eight points, Bryce Richey with seven, Anthony Davanzo with six, and Gaven Strines with five. The Spartans were 2-2 on the season after the contest.
The BGMS seventh-grade boys basketball team beat Warren Gold, 46-25. Holden Lipke led the offensive attack with 14 points, while Noah Falleti scored eight points and Jarod Wilson added seven. John Dudik scored four points and Alex Cardona chipped in three. Finishing out the scoring were Evan Collins, Brian Terlesky, Antonio Page, and Brad Boerio with two points each. The boys improved to 3-1 on the year.
BGMS Girls Top Hubbard
Glenwood's eighth-grade girls improved to 3-2 on the season with a 30-23 win over Hubbard on Dec. 20. Simone Comer had 12 points and nine rebounds and Aniyuh Spann added 12 points and six rebounds to lead the Spartans. Lauren Pavlansky, Alaina Hufnagel, and Caitlyn Campana chipped in two points each. Defense and rebounding were the key to victory. Maryssa Wagner had three rebounds and two steals, and Charlotte Voytko, Alexis Stutz, and Faith Clear added two rebounds each.
The seventh-grade girls won their first game of the season with a 13-12 win over the Hubbard Eagles. Leading scorers were Cassie Stitt with seven, Ashley Clark at three, Savannah Beule with two, and Aniya White at one. A strong defense led the way as steals by Carly Amendola, Riley Zawrotuk, Kaylee Davis, Nadine Gabriel, and Casey Zaitzew paved the way toward the win.
BGMS Boys Sweep Hubbard
The seventh-grade boys beat Hubbard, 43-19 on Dec. 20. Noah Faletti led the way with 15 points. Brian Terlesky added 12 points while Holden Lipke and Antonio Page each had four points. Finishing out the scoring were Brad Boerio with three points and Alex Cardona, Evan Collins, and Jarod Wilson who each scored two points. The Spartans improved to 4-1 on the season.
The BGMS boys eighth-grade team improved its record to 3-2 with a 31-17 win over Hubbard. The team was lead in scoring by Bryce Richey and Gaven Strines with nine points. Mark Smaldino and Sean Birchfield had four each, J.R. Ryan added three and Travis Koontz had two. Dante Colaluca, Manan Shah, A.J. Scissum, and Brandon Wallace all played important roles defensively for the team.
BGMS Girls Top Canfield
The Boardman Glenwood eighth-grade girls improved to 4-2 on the year with a 20-18 win over Canfield on Jan. 3. Simone Comer led the way with 10 points and six steals. Aniyuh Spann had six points with six blocks, Lauren Pavlansky and Alaina Hufnagel had two points each. Leading the Spartans defense were Emily Wagner, Alexis Stutz, and Charlotte Voytko with two steals each. Spann, Simone Comer, Taylor Halowell, Faith Clear held down the rebounding effort to help the Spartans win.
The seventh-grade girls lost to a tough Canfield team, 30-13. Leading scorers were Cassie Stitt at six, Ashley Clark with three, and Rachel Hritz and Savannah Beule with two apiece. The Lady Spartans are now 1-5.
Canfield Tops BGMS
The seventh-grade boys lost a close game to Canfield, 34-33 on Jan. 3. Brian Terlesky led the way with 10 points while Antonio Page added added. Noah Falleti chipped in seven points while Holden Lipke and Jarod Wilson had five points and three points respectively. The Spartans fell to 4-2 on the season.
The BGMS eighth-grade boys lost a tight matchup to Canfield, 27-24. The loss drops the Spartans to a 3-3 this season. The team had an off shooting night and was in foul trouble but battled hard throughout the game. The team was lead in scoring by J.R. Ryan with nine points, Gaven Strines with five, Bryce Richey and Nick Augustine with three each, and Mark Smaldino and Sean Birchfield with two apiece.
