In what is one of the greatest athletic honors that a current student-athlete on the Malone University cross country and track and field program has ever achieved, Malone freshman cross country runner Ryan Roush, of Canfield, was recently selected to the Team USA squad that will compete at the Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country Challenge in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Jan. 5.
Coach Jack Hazen said, with the distinction, Roush became the first Malone student-athlete chosen for international competition with Team USA while still enrolled in college.
Roush had an outstanding fall semester as a member of the Pioneer team in his first semester with the program as he was named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year. He placed eighth among 103 runners in that meet in a personal season-best time of 24:37.7 (8K).
"Ryan is very deserving of this honor and selection because of his tremendous success as a first-semester freshman at Malone," said Hazen. "We are very excited for this wonderful opportunity for him and look forward to his continued success within our program at Malone."
