The Niles Chapter of the American Sewing met earlier this month at Ciminero's Banquet Center in Niles, for its annual meeting and holiday party. Virginia Hardman, Margaret Coon and Ramona Hurd led the installation of officers for the Chapter Advisory Board. Kim Zolnier also served on the nominating committee but was unable to attend.
Elected positions for 2013 are: Barbara Rosier-Tryon of Cortland, president; Marion Gibson of Cortland, first vice president; Diane Wittik of Warren, second vice president; Lynn Price of Austintown, treasurer; and Gretchen Saunders of North Jackson, secretary.
Barbara Springer of Austintown, was chosen as 2012 Member of the Year. She was recognized by ASGNiles for her generous philanthropic work in sewing garments for children, knitting hats, etc. and donating them to various local children's charities. She has won many blue ribbons at the Canfield Fair and many "Best of Show" awards. She is always willing to help with a neighborhood group project and also has a show and tell for the meeting.

Sixty-five members and guests attended the function organized by Jodie Clark and Virginia Hardman. Centerpieces and favors were made by the Niles Silver Thimbles neighborhood group.
This year's challenge of making adult clothing protectors (bibs) brought in 27 items to be donated to local area nursing homes in Trumbull and Mahoning counties. Sandi Rosier took first place; Denise Cline, second place; and Pam Sullivan, third place.
