Scouts train new leaders

November 29, 2012
Special to the Town Crier

Boy Scout Troop 25 of Canfield, held a Junior Leader Training the weekend of Nov. 16 at Camp Akela at the Stambaugh Scout Reservation in Canfield. Scouts who have been newly elected in their troops into leadership positions are given a weekend of leadership experiences based on a national program to better prepare them for their responsibilities in leading their troops. Leadership positions include Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leaders, Assistant Patrol Leaders, Troop Chaplain, Troop Historian. Troop Librarian, Troop Quartermaster, Troop Scribe and Junior Assistant Scoutmasters. Current Senior Patrol Leader is Donny Duda and Patrol Leaders are Zach Gierlach and Patrick Nielson.

Both indoor sessions combined with hands-on outdoor sessions are covered so that these newly elected leaders not only learn how to work with others but also how to plan and carry out a program so that all involved advance toward the goals they have set.

Upcoming events for Troop 25 include ringing bells for the Salvation Army and a Christmas Party in December, co-hosting the Whispering Pines District Klondike Derby in January, Scouting Anniversary Week, Scout Sunday Services and Breakfast and the February Court of Honor and Troop Dinner in February.
