Poland Library remains closed

November 26, 2012
Special to the Town Crier

The Poland branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will remain closed at least through the end of day Tuesday, Nov. 27, while awaiting further test results. A reopening date has not yet been determined.

According to Janet Loew, communications and public relations director for the library system, it is working with environmental consultants Lawhon & Associates, Inc. to further evaluate the air quality problem that resulted in the Poland branch being temporarily closed starting Nov. 16. Technicians from Lawhon & Associates, Inc. are undertaking further analysis at the branch library this week.

All events scheduled at Poland Library are cancelled during the time the library is closed. She said the library is working with Kravitz Delicatessen and customers who have booked the Poland Library meeting room to move those events to another location.

The Poland branch was closed as a precaution, Loew said, as a smell in the area increased in strength late last week. She noted that the library has no reason to believe this smell originates from inside the library and believes it's likely from a source outside the library branch, but the investigation is continuing.

Loew said the branch will be reopened as soon as possible.
