More than 40 students competed at the Ohio Federation of Music clubs' annual state convention in Cuyahoga Falls on Saturday, Oct. 13. At the convention, students have the opportunity to compete in one of three competitions based upon age group.
Amongst the competitors in the Charlotte and W. Alfred Gray competition for high school-aged students was Hayley Ward of Canfield, who performed "Prelude in g minor, Op. 5 no. 23" by Rachmaninoff and won overall second place for the competition.
Hayley is the daughter of Bob and Laura Ward, and is a student of the Fanny DiDomenico piano studio in Canfield. Hayley has been studying piano for 12 years, and is also an accomplished saxophone player. Hayley is the recipient of the Paderewski Award from the National Piano Guild. She is a competitor in the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs competitions, where she has earned multiple superior ratings.
Hayley plans on attending a music school or conservatory to major in piano performance and music education upon graduation in 2013.
