We choose the school district we want

October 31, 2012
The Town Crier

Dear Editor,

I have expressed my support, on several unsuccessful occasions, for the passage of the Poland Local School District levy. I've argued that people move to Poland because of our schools. I've pointed out the numbers, such as the cuts to annual state support, and our below average per pupil spending and operating millage. I've even gone so far as to cite the Ohio Supreme Court decision that declared the state education finance system unconstitutional.

Since my past letters did not deliver the results I had hoped, I'm not going to belabor my point.

We are left with the responsibility of deciding the direction our district travels. The state of Ohio has made it clear that we must fend for ourselves. We can accept the responsibility and vote in favor of the levy, or we can reject the responsibility and vote against the levy.

Like it or not, the decision has been left to us. We still have the power to choose the kind of school district we want.
