Local heads to NFL as sectional winner

October 24, 2012
Special to the Town Crier

Seven-year-old Adrian Puz is headed for the NFL. After winning the sectional championship of the NFL's punt, pass and kick competition on Sept. 30 in Middleburg Heights, the Lynn Kirk Elementary student will advance to the team championship at the Cleveland Browns vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game on Sunday, Nov. 25.

The NFL punt pass and kick program is a national skills competition that was established in 1961, making it the oldest NFL youth program. More than 3 million boys and girls from across the country take part in competitions every year from July through January, it is one of the largest youth sports participation programs.

Winners in each age group are determined by their total distance of their punt, pass and kick, and scoring is based on distance and accuracy.

Adrian began with the local competition, held at the Creekside Golf Dome in Girard, on Sept. 16, before heading to sectionals. The team championship will be held at the Browns' practice facility in Berea, followed by being a guest of the Cleveland Browns at the Browns vs. Steelers game.

According to his dad, Tom Puz, the second-grader is a huge Steelers fan, but he will have to pretend to be a Browns fan that day.
