Meeting Monday, Oct. 1, Boardman Township Trustees approved the following:
- The Phase 1 proposal by RP Architects, Inc. to expand and renovate Fire Station 71, as well as the existing former Service Garage located at 126 Boardman-Poland Rd., at a cost of $30,000.
- Utilizing funds provided by the police levy, the purchase of three radios from Motorola Solutions for use by the police department at a cost of $2,776.88 each.
- The purchase of 1,336.83 gallons of HP-5 oil from JASA Materials, Akron, at a cost of 5,031.44 including freight to be used in the production of cold mix blacktop for the 2012-2013 season.
In other business:
The Boardman Township Fire Department will host its annual Fire Safety Open House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the main station, located at 136 Boardman-Canfield Road. The event will be free and open to the public.
With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, according to union President Harry Wolfe, the International Association of Firefighters has teamed up with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, purchasing 300 T-shirts which are available for either $15 each or $10 each with the purchase of four or more.
The T-shirts will be available at Saturday's Fire Safety Open House, and interested parties can also inquire by calling 330-727-6969.
Trick or treat hours for Boardman Township will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31.
Utilizing funds acquired through a Mahoning County Green Team through its continuing efforts to provide recycling to the residents of Boardman Township, the Boardman Township Road Department will conduct its annual Leaf Pick-up Program running Monday, Oct. 29, through Friday, Nov. 20.
Following the same pickup schedule utilized in past years, the four-week program will exclude Nov. 12 due to the Veterans Day holiday, as well as the week of Nov. 19 through 23 due to Thanksgiving.
The Road Department requests that all leaves be placed in recyclable brown paper leaf bags, which can be purchased at local retailers.
