Boardman Glenwood's seventh-grade volleyball team defeated Girard, 25-17 and 25-7 to improve to 3-5 on the season on Sept. 13. The leading scorer was Zoe Sims with floor leaders being Sydney Hull and Emma Hough.
The eighth-grade team fell to Girard, 9-25 and 18-25 to make their record 2-6 on the season. Floor leaders were Alaina Hufnagel and Brittany Mathews.
On Sept. 12, Boardman Glenwood's seventh-grade volleyball team defeated Howland 15-25, 25-16, and 25-14. Toni Dota had three aces and Madison Soles and Marissa Sudac had one each.
Boardman Glenwood's eighth-grade team fell to Howland, 15-25, 25-20, and 17-25. Faith Clear had five aces with Taylor Halowell leading in defense.
Boardman Glenwood's cross country team competed in the Spartan Invitational. The girls' top four scorers, Cassie Stitt, Casey Zaitzew, Savannah Beule, and Lauren Pavlansky, finished in the top 65 out of more than 200 runners. Allison Janak, Kayla Welton, and Rebekah Stamp supported the team with personal records on the course. Nathaniel Ams had a strong individual effort finishing 14th out of 234 boys. Matt Maroni, Mark Moradian, Chris Peters, Austin Bacho, and Nick Peters also had personal records.
The BGMS football team lost a hard-fought battle against P. Ross Berry, 14-8. BGMS dominated the offensive side of the ball and finally pushed through with a 5-yard touchdown run from Sean Birchfield. Birchfield would also score on the two-point conversion. A tough Spartan defense gave up one big play during the game and forced two fumbles, which were recovered by Nick Stamp and Anthony Davanzo. The Spartans are now 0-3 on the season.
