The Austintown Fitch volleyball team defeated Warren Harding Aug. 25 by scores of 25-7, 25-22, and 25-15. Fitch's leading server was Cali Mikovich with five aces. Leading attacker was Maura Bianco with six kills. Leading setter was Sydney Greenwood with 10 assists and leading defender was Alex Corradi with five digs. Leading blockers with one each were Maura Bianco, Sarah Obradovich, and Sarah Melfe.

The Fitch team lost to Mooney Aug. 28 by scores of 21-25, 21-25, and 18-25. Leading server for Fitch was Taylor Herman with two. Maura Bianco was lead attacker with eight kills, Tiffany Rapovy was lead setter with 10 assists, leading defender went to Alana Callahan with nine digs, and Maura Bianco was lead blocker with four. The Fitch JV team won the best of three with scores of 18-25, 25-16, and 25-18.

Aug. 30 at home against Liberty. Fitch outpaced Liberty with scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-17 to take the win. The lead attacker was Maura Bianco with six kills. Lead setter went to Sydney Greenwood with seven assists. Lead defender was Cali Mikovich with 11 digs, and lead blocker went to Bianco with five. The JV girls also pulled out a win after sets of 25-18 and 29-27.

Fitch girls fell to Geneva on Saturday, Sept. 8, 25-16 and 25-15 in a dual meet on Saturday. Leading scorer for the Falcons was Taylor Herman with two aces. Cali Mikovich turned in four kills to lead the attacking as Sydney Greenwood turned in five assists and Alana Callahan posted five digs. In game two, Fitch downed Akron Garfield 25-5 and 25-9. Leading scorers in the Akron contest was Taylor Herman and Sarah Melfe with five aces each. Leading attacker was Maura Bianco with seven kills; leading setters were Tiffany Rapovy and Katarina Lewis with four assists; and lead defender went to Alana Callahan with six digs.


AMS Red eighth-grade volleyball team beat Boardman Glenwood Aug. 29 in a best of two with scores of 25-19 and 25-20.

AMS Red eighth-grade volleyball team took a 5-25 and 15-25 loss to a tough Canfield team on Sept. 5.

AMS eighth-grade Red volleyball lost a 2-1 decision to Struthers n Sept. 6 after winning the first set 25-23, then falling in close games at 21-25 and 22-25. Top servers were: Natalie Lynn with 3 aces and serving 12 points; Keara Katcher with 1 ace and 15 points; and Maya Martin with 1 ace and a total of 19 points.


The Austintown Fitch girls soccer team beat Boardman, 4-2, in their season opener on Saturday, Aug. 18. Austintown goals were scored by Krista Martin, Madion Hefner, Kimmy Muccio, and Meghan Shonce with assists Jayme Ritchie and Lauren Bower.

In JV action, Fitch the Spartans, 3-0. Goals were scored by Maddy Miller, Casey Infante and Justine Phillips with assists by Bree Helminiak and Laura Wilson.

In the varsity girls soccer game against North Canton Hoover on Aug. 20, neither team scored. The JV Fitch girls beat Hoover 2-0. Maddy Miller scored both goals with one assist by Laura Wilson.

The Falcon girls shut out Struthers on Aug. 29, 11-0. Goals were scored by: Lauren Bower (3), Kaelyn Puhalla (3), Jayme Ritchie, Maddy Miller, Mandi Koch, Justine Phillips, and Meghan Shonce. Assists were made by: Madison Hefner (2), Kaelyn Puhalla, Krista Martin, Justine Phillips, and Nicole Granger. Fitch was 27-1 for shots on goal and Jessica Scott made one save. No JV game was played.


Currently the Austintown Fitch Boy's Soccer team is 2-0; securing wins @

West Branch (4-1) and @ Howland (2-0). The JV team is 0-1-1. Tying West

Branch (2-2) and losing to Howland 1-0 in a rain shortened game.
