The Awesometown Community Fun Day is less than a month away. The core committee has a big plate of activities planned for this year and are expecting it to exceed last year's numbers.
"I believe we will be bigger than last year," said co-director Brad Bloomster.
The event is in its third year of offering a fun, family event for the Austintown and surrounding communities. Although the second year and this year have been downsized from the first event, both Bloomster and co-director Mark Cole believe they are on the right road to grow.
The car show is one area that is very likely to see a larger participation this year.
"Last year we had two judged car shows on the same day," Cole said. "This year we don't have that and expect a lot more cars at our event."
He also mentioned that the Joshua Walker Car show will be the week before and will help publicize the Awesometown car show.
One new item this year will be the addition of a live band. Cole said the event will have a three-man tribute band performing.
The festival will be held at Emmanuel Church on Kirk Road as it was last year. Cole said there just weren't enough helping hands to go back to Austintown Township Park this year.
At the church, Cole said there are presently 100 craft and local business vendors who will be set up. There will be games and activities for children, a Civil War encampment and a model airplane flying exhibit on the church ball field.
Cole said the committee has partnered with the Austintown Senior Center so that entity could have a presence in the event. Meetings are held at the center and it has taken charge of the books and funds for the event.
