Runners start season in Canton

The Canfield High School varsity cross country team travelled to Canton Glen Oak High School to compete in the Glen Oak Invitational prior to the start of the Canfield Fair. This invitational attracts some of the top teams from northeast Ohio. The boys finished 10th out of 24 teams entered. The top 10 teams were Cleveland St Ignatius A at 53, Twinsburg 107, Solon 159, Cleveland St Edward 170, Brunswick 172, Louisville 172, Akron St Vincent St Mary 186, Glen Oak 195, St Ignatius B 208, Canfield 255. A total of 190 runners toed the line with Canfield runners finishing in this order Chase Kern 24th, Rollin Bresson 26th, Tyler Kennedy 51st, Alec Kennedy 55th, Rajan Solanki 119th and Andy Russo 141st.

The girl's team finished seventh out of 20 teams. The top seven teams were Akron St Vincent St Mary 29, Solon 80, Brunswick 91, Glen Oak 122, Louisville 183, Twinsburg 195 and Canfield 203. A total of 150 runners toed the line with Canfield runners finishing in this order Emma Lunne 4th, Jamie Watt 27th, Rachel Rostek 40th, Victoria Pacheco 60th and Anna Louongo 65th.

The high school junior varsity travelled to Salem to compete in the Salem Early Bird Invitational. The boys team finished eighth out of 12 teams. The top eight teams were Boardman 36, Howland 63, Hudson 66, Perry 99, Marlington 116, East Liverpool 180, Indian Creek 209 and Canfield 257. A total of 166 runners toed the line with the top seven runners from Canfield scoring as follows: Mack Mettille 37th, Kyle Anderson 53rd, Tyler Tareshawty 54th, Tom Donadee 56th, Mike Solomon 57th, Matt Coalmer 59th and Slava Lafoer 60th. Also finishing for Canfield were John Stedge, Gary Zammary, Alex Nischwitz, Sam Rantilla, Dan Sylak, Andrew Bell, Richie Abel, Ben Vitek and Bobby Hudok. The girls' team finished seventh out of 11 teams. The top seven teams were Boardman 58, South Range 67, Howland 73, Marlington 76, Perry 161, Oak Glen 203 and Canfield 215. A total of 128 runners toed the line with the top seven runners from Canfield scoring as follows. Jenny McClune 18th, Victoria Bosze 42nd, Amy Goddard 49th, Angelina Sorice 51st, Libby Urig 55th, Emily Burton 56th and Sarah Wyand 57th. Also finishing for Canfield were Brittany Bettile, Rachel Wyand, Leah Vitek, Pragi Patel, Maddy Urig, Svetlana Lefoer and Isabelle Moyer.

The Canfield Village Middle School boys' and girls' teams competed at Salem along with eight other schools. The boys finished sixth among the nine teams. The top six teams were Boardman with 59, South Range 91, Ravenna 102, Jackson Milton 104, East Liverpool 112, and Canfield 129. A total of 87 runners toed the line with Canfield's runners scoring as follows Victor Stefanides 6th, Tyler Napolitano 21st, Nick O'Hara 23rd, Alexander Plant 39th, Ben Walker 40th, Jordan Audia 47th and Kyle Huston 48th. The girls team finished 1st among eight teams. The top five teams were Canfield 41, Boardman 88, South Range 100, Niles 108 and Jackson Milton 115. A total of 89 runners toed the line with Canfield runners scoring as follows. Raquel Markulin 2nd, Anita Mancini 3rd, Emerson Fletcher 10th, Clarise Rostek 11th, Marissa Cashbaugh 15th, Cara DeChurch 16th and Zoe Cavoulis 36th. Other runners finishing for Canfield were Sara Green, Angana Osborne, Becky Armstrong and Giavanna Sammarone.
