Local women’s tennis team to compete in nationals

The Valley’s local USTA Senior Women’s 3.0 tennis team won the USTA Midwest Tennis Championship on Aug. 26 in Fort Wayne, Ind. They won matches against the state champions from Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Prior to this, the team won the NEOTA Championship Aug. 4 at Western Reserve Racquet Club in Hudson, and traveled to Toledo to win the state championship on Aug. 10. They will travel to Palm Springs California to compete in the USTA National Championships Oct. 5-7. The team members pictured here include: Heidi DeNiro and Lynne Rosati of Boardman, Shirley Neher of Ellsworth, Shirley McMahon of Canfield, Karen Miller of Boardman, Jill Herock of Canfield, Melissa Chaves of Howland, Sue Brown of Canfield, Shelly Cerimele of Boardman, and Christy Wellham of Canfield. They are coached by Pam Steinhauser of Boardman Tennis Center and Brown serves as team captain.
