August 30, 2012
Special to the Town Crier

A requiem Eucharist celebrating the life and ministry of the Rev. Gordon Kelly Marshall will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, at St. James' Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., Boardman. Preludial music begins at 9:30 a.m., with the service following at 10 a.m. The Right Rev. Mark Hollingsworth, Jr., bishop of Ohio, will officiate.

Fr. Marshall died on Friday, Aug. 3, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He served congregations in Alabama, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio over a 40-year ministry, most recently serving as the rector of St. James' Episcopal Church in Boardman. Fr. Marshall began his career in the United Methodist Church, and in December of 2011, he celebrated the 25th anniversary of his ordination in the Episcopal Church.

Born in Kittanning, Pa., Fr. Marshall attended Kittanning High School, graduating in 1969. He earned a master of arts in psychology from Slippery Rock State University in 1982 and a Master in Theology from Duquesne University in 1985. He enjoyed genealogical research and connected many relatives through his work. He loved to travel and in 2011 made pilgrimages to Canterbury, Santiago de Compostela, and Jerusalem.
