A few years ago, the Poland Relay for Life started with a small group of teams and a great amount of determination. At the July 6-7, 2012 relay event, the Poland Relay for Life had over 30 registered teams, and turned in more than $68,000! This tremendous achievement was realized due to the amazing support of our generous citizens, neighbors, and local relay families.
Why do we relay? We relay in memory of loved ones who have bravely fought and lost their battles with cancer. We relay in support of loved ones who are still courageously fighting this disease, and we relay in hope of finding cures before the next generation has to face this struggle. We relay for a future where cancer will no longer be a threat to our children and our grandchildren.
The 2013 relay season starts Sept. 1. You will begin to see donation buckets, raffles, and various fund raisers throughout our community. On Sept. 7 and 8, there will be a multi-family yard sale at 28 Island Drive in Poland, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. This sale will offer housewares, baby items, books, clothing, bake sale and other miscellaneous pieces. All proceeds will be donated to the Poland Relay for Life. On Sept. 22, there will be a Craft Show and Car Show at the Negley Volunteer Fire Department, from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. All profits from the refreshments will be donated to the Poland Relay for Life.
Anyone interested in joining the Poland Relay for Life and/or forming a new team is welcome to attend our first meeting of the new season. It will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Memorial Baptist Church of Poland, 56 Water St., Poland.
To everyone in our relay community - we want to thank you for your wonderful generosity and your incredible continuing support of the Poland Relay for Life. We greatly appreciate all of your help! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
