The Canfield 9- and 10-year-old boys district team won the Ohio Little League State championship game recently. Brayden Beck pitched five complete innings, giving up three hits and Cole Rothbauer pitched a scoreless sixth inning. The game was scoreless until Evan Skripac and Dominic Pilolli led off the bottom of third inning with consecutive singles. A walk and an error resulted in the Cardinals scoring three runs in the inning. After scoring another run in the fourth inning, Canfield extended its lead to 8-2 in the fifth inning thanks to a big hit coming off the bat of Ethan Fletcher with the bases loaded. Adding to the defensive effort were: Seth Velker, McCoy Watkins, Jake Kowal, Walt Sweeney, Richie Hofus and Jimmy Maass. Starting with the Chuck Schafer Scholarship Tournament in Boardman and ending with the state tournament, Canfield 9- and 10-year-old all stars were 14-0, outscoring its opponents 125-29.
