The Simon Roofing Fairway Ford Canfield 13-and-under girls won the Medina Invitational Tournament June 19 and 10. The Lady Cardinals defeated Strongsville 5-4, Buckeye 1-0, Chagrin Falls 4-1 and host Medina 0-0, 4-3 in penalty kicks. The championship was tied 0-0 after 80 minutes of regulation and overtime. Camille Holzschuh had three blocks of six to win the game in the goal. Bella Mangie and Taylor Meier made the first two attempts for the Cardinals, Paige Georgeoff was then blocked, Anta Mancini banged the next one in, Cheyenne Story missed just left and with the kicks tied 3-3 Giovana Condoleon left no doubt as she hit a laser to the upper right portion of the net to end the marathon game.
Head coach and team manager Frank Mancini said, "This was the best team effort we had all season. The girls played in 90 degree heat and made great efforts for the 50-50 balls." Mancini singled out Katie Renouf for her defensive play.
"Katie was getting used to a new position on the defensive end and played at a level that she has not shown thus far, a superb effort."
