Lions don’t sleep in Boardman

July 4, 2012
Special to the Town Crier

The Boardman Lions Club continued its commitment to beautifying the township by landscaping the second new "Welcome to Boardman" sign, this one on U.S. 224 across from the Mill Creek Golf Course. The club has also landscaped the sign on the east side of Market Street in May.

Lions Ron Paris, Patti Shears, Laura Hancock and Terry Shears rototilled, cleared, and planted the site. With a discount from Elliott's Landscaping, the Club purchased two Blue Princess hollies, three Green Velvet boxwoods, three Gold Rush barberries, and three blue oatgrasses. The Lions spread mulch at the location to finish the project.

Within the last year, to show its commitment to a "green" lifestyle, the club also planted a buckeye tree in Boardman Park and distributed white pine saplings on Arbor Day in April to each fourth-grader in the Boardman Local School System.
