From left, Paula Jakubec, immediate past president of the Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance and Michele Duffett, current president present a $4,000 donation to Becky Miller and Shirley Matula of Second Harvest Foodbank. The donation was presented at a luncheon May 29 in Austintown and will be used for Second Harvest's BackPack program, designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations. Backpacks are filled with child-friendly, nonperishable, easily consumed and fortified food with the more than 375 children in the program. The Medical Society Alliance raised the money through its annual Charity Fashion Show, held in February. The Alliance is a group of physician spouses whose mission is to educate, inform and support the medical family though health promotion, legislation and community service. To hold a food drive for the program, call 330-792-5522.
