The Boardman boys high school baseball team were the winners of the Federal League title for the 2012 season. In addition, Federal League awards were announced recently and the Spartan team was well represented. Most notably, senior Danny Popio was named Federal League Player of the Year. Also receiving Federal League Honors were, First Team Award, Popio and senior Troy Parks; Second Team Award, senior Derek Pasquale and junior Nico DiIanni; Honorable Mentions: senior Anthony Pascella, senior Cameron Rogers and sophomore Phil DiIanni; Federal League All-Academic Team: seniors Nathan Knaus, Jude Koury, Anthony Pacella, Derek Pasquale, and Cameron Rogers.
Boardman High School sophomore Mark Hadley broke a 26-year-old school record in the 3200 meter run and qualified for the OHSAA State Track and Field Championship in the process. Hadley's second place time of 9:20.2 bested the previous mark set in 1986 by Tim Grady with a time of 9:21.8.
