At the recent Austintown Rotary Club meeting, Susie Aikens and Janice Tkachuk presented a program showing the importance of the local One-Stop Employer/Job Seeker Service. Presently they cover all of Mahoning and Trumbull counties with the on-the-job training program.
Recognizing that employers sometimes make the best trainers for jobs in their specific industries, the OJT Program serves both businesses and trainees to build a better workforce. Field training is conducted at the site where the job is performed to ensure the right fit between worker and workplace. This short-term training helps a worker develop the skills necessary to become a valuable asset as a full-time employee in a particular business.
They defray up to 50 percent of the cost of wages during an initial training period. Employers can identify the candidate or the One-Stop can assist by using its extensive job matching resources. One-Stop staff can find candidates who match the employer's qualifications.
