"It's not as bad as some of the past years" was the reply from Fitch's Athletic Director Rob Conklin when this past Saturday's weather conditions were mentioned. He reminded, "Last year we had to cancel the meet because the wind chill was too low."
The athletes didn't seem to let it stop them from performing with all they had, even though the temperature hovered in the mid-40s and the rain would go from a light drizzle to a near downpour.
Fitch's boys and girls teams captured the Division 1 title with scores of 182 and 145.25, respectively. The girls bracket saw Canfield finish second with 129 points, Boardman third (100.25) and Poland fifth with 43.25. The Division 1 boys bracket rounded out with Boardman in second (108), Poland fifth (41) and Canfield in sixth (37).
Junior Emma Lunne completed this 1600 meter run with a time of 5:29.65 giving her a second place finish. She came back in the 3200 meter run to record a 12:07.17 and first place. Emma was recognized as the MVP for Division 1 girls.
Canfield's Emma Lunne and Poland's Sage Spotleson shared the ladies MVP honors and Fitch's Billy Price and Boardman's Mark Hadley shared the men's MVP honors.
