Last Thursday, the last wooden seats were removed from the bleachers at Falcon Stadium to make way for the installation of new aluminum seating. Austintown School District Superintendent of Operations and Facilities Mal Culp, said it finishes the renovation.
"We wanted to finish the bleachers and we only had one section to go," Culp said.
He said the funding was half school budget under maintenance and the other half came from the Falcon Forward Committee. After the project was approved, Culp got an interesting surprise.

Jeremy Hartle and Charles Hartle of United Equipment remove the last of the antiquated wooden seats from the bleachers at Falcon Stadium. This week, new aluminum seating will be installed, finishing the seat renovations.
"Ray Holmes from the Falcon Forward Committee was trying to put together a work night to remove the old seating," Culp said. "When Tom Appel of United Equipment heard we were doing the project, he volunteered to have his company remove the old wooden seating and even offered to haul it away."
On Thursday morning, a crew from United showed up and began the removal. They finished in the afternoon and the project was ready for the installation of the new seats this week.
Culp said Buckeye Bleachers won the bid and will be doing the installation that will finish the stadium renovations. He said this final project will make Falcon Stadium the finest in the Valley.
"It's my goal to get this stadium back to the glory it once was," he said. "We are working on a limited budget, but with the support of people like Appel, we can stretch that budget."
