6th grader's wrestling proves quite a draw

April 11, 2012
By Kathleen Palumbo , Town Crier correspondent

Having earned first place at the Ohio Youth Wrestling Association state tournament, which included 130 teams with more than 3,000 students competing, Matthew Cardello has had a very successful wrestling career to date.

The 12-year-old, sixth-grade Holy Family School student wrestled for the North Akron Wrestling Club at Walsh Jesuit, where he competed against sixth- through eighth-graders, and also finished fourth at the OAC Junior High State Wrestling Tournament, where 2,200 kids competed at qualifiers throughout the state.

The son of Matt and Beth Cardello of Poland, Matthew, who has also been training at Team Miron in Columbus, continues to rack up accomplishments, having begun wrestling only four years ago.
