Boardman boys go 3-1 on busy week

Senior pitcher Troy Parks (2-0) went the distance as Boardman opened league play with an 11-1 victory over Lake on April 3. Parks scattered five hits and struck out two en route to his first complete game of the year. The Spartans pounded out 15 hits as every player recorded at least one hit. Leading the way offensively was senior Cameron Rogers who was 2-3 with two triples and four RBI's. Senior Dan Popio was also 2-3 with a double and two RBI's. Derek Pasquale, Phil DiIanni, Anthony Pacella, and Nate Knaus all added a double a piece.

Boardman dropped to 3-2 (1-0) after a non-conference loss to Cleveland St. Ignatius Wednesday evening, April 4. Offensively, the Spartans only had four hits which were all singles. Junior Mike Witte suffers the loss as his record drops to 1-1 on the year. Boardman will travel to Lake for a Federal League contest on Thursday.

In the first game of a double-header April 7, Boardman won 2-1 after sophomore Aaron Dill picked up his first varsity career win going six strong and striking out three in a 2-1 victory over Eastlake North. Parks picked up his first save on the year to help secure the win for the Spartans. Offensively for Boardman, Rogers and Kratofil each drove in a run.

In game two, sophomore Eddie Crump (1-0) earned his first varsity win pitching 4 1/3 innings of relief against Eastlake North on Saturday, April 7 at Eastwood Field. The Spartans were led offensively by DiIanni, Rogers, and Dan Watkins all of whom collected two hits apiece. Rogers' hits included a triple and two RBIs, while Watkins added a double and two RBIs to give the Spartans a 7-6 win. Boardman improved to 5-2 (1-0) on the year.
