Brooke Smith of Youngstown garnered a first place win in the National History Day competition held at Youngstown State University recently. Brooke, an eighth-grade student at Buckeye Online School for Success, competed in the Individual Paper division with a paper written on the reformation in the treatment of the mentally ill and mentally defective. She will be going to Columbus to compete in the state National History Day competition to be held on April 23, in Columbus.
