March 19, 2012
Town Crier

The cause of a Boardman structure fire is under investigation today as crews battled a blaze Sunday night at 225 McClurg Road. According to the Boardman Fire Department, two employees of 42 Inc., an audio/visual production business, called 911 to report the smell of smoke coming from D&D Industrial Supply, with whom they share a building.

Fire crews arrived six minutes later to find heavy smoke conditions coming from the roof and overhead garage door near the D&D office area. Firefighters forced entry to the business and initiated an attack when they encountered heavy smoke and heat conditions. Firefighter Mark Pitzer came in contact with a live electrical line and received a shock which forced the crews to back out of the building. Pitzer was treated at the scene by paramedics then sent to St. Elizabeth Health Center for evaluation where he was treated and released.

Beaver Township and Western Reserve Joint Fire District came in as mutual aid due to the size of the building and the amount of fire. Crews remained on the scene until 11:45 p.m. and investigators from Metro Arson Task Force, comprised of fire investigators from Mahoning and southern Trumbull county, were called into assist Boardman fire investigators.

The fire is believed to have started in the office area of D&D Indrustrial Supply. Initial loss has been estimated at $150,000 to the structure and $1 million to the contents of the three affected businesses. Vision Auto Detailing had five client vehicles inside, while D&D Industrial estimates a loss of inventory and equipment close to $500,000 and 42 Inc had smoke damage to most of their sensitive audio/visual equipment.
