Coffee equals cash to help hungry

March 10, 2012
Special to the Town Crier

Starting March 12 through the end of the month, Panera Bread will be donating 25 cents to Second Harvest Food Bank for every cup of coffee sold. Austintown, Boardman, Canfield, Niles, Warren and Hermitage, Pa., locations will also have donation stations at each cash register through Panera Bread's Operation Dough-Nation.

"For every $1 given, the food bank can distribute $15 worth of food and we are thrilled that Panera Bread is joining the campaign to help raise funds to feed people in our community," said Michael Iberis, executive director, Second Harvest Food Bank.

Harvest for Hunger is a monthlong food and funds drive that takes place in 21 counties of northeast Ohio and benefits four Feeding America member food banks including Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. All funds raised and food collected in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties remain in the community.

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley distributes food to 153 hunger relief organizations in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties. These organizations include church pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after-school programs. For more information on the Food Bank, please call 330-792-5522 or visit www.mahoningvalleysecondharvest.org.
