Lady Lions win 4th championship

The St Charles eighth-grade Lady Lions completed the 2011-12 season, winning their fourth straight Mahoning-Trumbull Catholic Conference Division 1 championship. The Lady Lions, the number 3 seed, defeated the St Christine eighth-grade Lady Crusaders, the number 1 seed, 19-18 in the championship game held at Mooney High School on Sunday, Feb. 19. To advance to the championship game, the Lady Lions beat JFK, the number 2 seed, at Blessed Sacrament in the semifinal game 42-28 on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Lexy Herman led the Lady Lions with 12 points, while Jaime Kempe scored six points and Kerri Dombroski contributed one point during the championship game. The team includes, from left in front, Kelli Dougherty, Delaney Reardon, Jaime Kempe, Kerri Dombroski, Lexy Herman, and Marta Hergenrother; in the second row, coach Joe Battista, head coach Ted Stazak, and coach Marty Hergenrother.
