The Boardman boys indoor track team competed at The Spire Institute on Friday, Feb. 24 at the new GREAT Center in Geneva. The meet was the fourth of the season for the boys team.
Highlighting the Spartan success was junior Nathan Jones placing eighth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.11 seconds. That time qualifies Jones for his first appearance in the New Balance National Indoor Track Meet in New York City the weekend of March 10. Jones will join teammate Devin Campbell, who finished seventh in the 60 with a time of 7.10 and was third in the long jump at 20 feet and 11 inches, and sophomore Ivan Adu-Poku as competitors in New York, all three are coached by new sprint coach Rick Sypert.
The 4x800 meter relay team of sophomore Alan Burns, junior Sam Sheronovich, sophomore Justin Maroni, and sophomore Mark Hadley placed fourth with a time of 8:41. In the 1600 meter run, Hadley was 10th overall with a time of 4:34. Maroni was 14th overall in the 3200 with a time of 10:24.
Burns was 13th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:06. Senior Will Birchfield was 14th in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.29. Senior Allen Starkey was ninth in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet and 10 inches. Jones was sixth in the 200 meter run with a time of 23.11.
