Second Chance ready to feed community

March 1, 2012
Special to the Town Crier

Second Chance Community Outreach Ministry is preparing for its summer activities preparing hot meals for the community. The ministry, at 1747 S. Raccoon Road, Suite 1, Austintown, is a nonprofit organization that on average, serves about 200 hot meals to community members each month and delivers close to 60 meals to residents. In addition, it offers other services including a regular food distribution and food pantry program, and clothing cupboard.

As well as providing full hot meals starting at 5 p.m. the third at Saturday of each month, the ministry also runs a coffee house each Saturday at 6 p.m. featuring the music of local artists. Typically, on those evenings snacks or light meals including soup are served.

Additionally, one Wednesday a month Upper Room Ministries, located on New Road in Austintown, sponsors a Biscuit Ministry, which also provides a free hot meal to community members from 2 to 4 p.m.

The ministry is also looking to add children's programs and other activities to its roster.

Dave Fidram, executive director, explained donations and contributions may also be made to Second Chance at any Huntington Bank, at the ministry office or by contacting ministry representatives directly.

"We appreciate the support we receive from the community," Fidram said. "Anything anyone can do to help someone in need, that can make a tremendous difference in someone's life. That's what it's all about, helping each other. It's about reaching out to the community and helping them where you are, to the best of your ability. We invite the community to come in, to see what we're all about, and to reach out to their neighbors."

Food and clothing may be dropped off at the ministry during event times or by appointment.

For more information and ways to help, contact Fidram at 330-301-6501.
