Six members of the Poland Seminary High School swim team competed at the Northeast District Championships at Cleveland State University on Saturday, Feb. 18.
For the girls, freshman Maddie Evan, senior Kayleigh Lavorini, freshman Zoe Sommers, and senior Becca Stewart placed 11th in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:46.88, and placed 13th in the 400 free relay with a time of 4:00.21. Stewart also placed 24th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.56 and she placed 24th in the 500 freestyle at 5:40.31.
Evan swam in the 100 backstroke and placed 16th with a time of 1:05.16. Sommers placed 21st in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:26.44 and she placed 29th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.87. Only the top two places in each event and then the next 16 best times at large amongst all districts in the state move on to the state competition.

For the Poland boys, junior Matt Misko and freshman Anthony Lattanzio both competed in the 100 breaststroke. Misko placed 28th with a time of 1:10.83 and Lattanzio finished 29th with a time of 1:11.19.
Poland also had two divers compete at the District championships. Junior Celia Melillo placed fifth with a score of 284.75 and she was advanced to the State competition on Feb. 22. Freshman Nicolette Kreatsoulas placed 11th with a score of 252.25.
