Col. Walter Duzzny, president of the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America is set to receive its charter from Retired Vice Admiral Norbert R. Ryan, president and CEO of MOAA, at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Youngstown Air Force Reserve Station in Vienna. VADM Ryan will be traveling from MOAA's headquarters in Alexandria, Va., to be the keynote speaker at the chartering ceremony, which will be attended by many local and state dignitaries.
VADM Ryan is a 1967 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, a graduate of George Washington University with a master of science degree in personnel administration, and the senior officials in National Security Program at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Ryan has commanded aviation units at the squadron, wing, and fleet levels and has directed the Navy's Office of Legislative Affairs. He served as the 52nd Chief of Naval Personnel before retiring and assuming his current position as President and CEO of MOAA in 2002.
The MSVC chapter was first organized last November and has become MOAA's fastest growing chapter in the nation, and continues to accept new members throughout Ashtabula, Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties. MOAA is a nonprofit veteran's association dedicated to maintaining a strong national defense and to preserving the earned entitlements of the uniformed services and their families and survivors.
