Cardinal Mooney Principal John Young has announced the appointment of Lou Cali as boys soccer coach. Cali, who has been an assistant coach at Mooney since 2006, brings a wealth of experience with him as he assumes the head coaching position.
His career started at Chaney High School in 1994. In six years, he posted the best win-loss record in Chaney history and took the Cowboys to their first appearance in district play. For the next four years he led the Warren John F. Kennedy High School program, winning the Eagles' first district title. In addition, from 2006-2011, Cali was the head coach of the Team Metro Soccer Club. His team reached the finals in 23 of 31 tournaments, winning 15 titles.
Cali was named Youngstown District Division I Coach of the Year twice, Youngstown District Parochial Coach of the Year, Youngstown District Assistant Coach of the Year two times and Ohio Division II Assistant Coach of the Year on two occasions.
In commenting on the selection of Cali, Young noted that "we are fortunate to have Lou Cali as our head coach. He brings not only a wealth of experience with him; but also familiarity with our program, its traditions and expectations. We are confident that he will be able to build on what has been recognized as one of the top boys soccer programs in Ohio."
