Canfield Township trustees met Jan. 10 to get organized for 2012. They started the year hearing about the need to expand recycling in the township.
"We are looking at putting in a new commingled recycling station in the township," said Township Administrator Keith Rogers. "It would be a third site for us."
The new site would be located across from Township Park off Herbert Road. The township owns a section of land on the north side of Herbert across from where the new sports fields have been built. Rogers said the concept is still being discussed with the Green Team and is expected to open once a recycling roll-off bin becomes available.
On a different topic, the trustees heard an update on the present work being done on the Indian Run Storm Water Improvement Project. Rogers said the present phase is expected to be completed around the end of June. That phase involves redesigning the channel to have a more natural flow along with the creation of a detention area.
The detention area would consist of a flood plain. Once the creek has been re-channeled, the sides would be further channeled to create the flood plain. It would be like placing the creek inside of a larger creek. The new design would handle a 100-year storm.
One other idea being considered is to hook up sound and an electronic display at Township Hall. This would allow for PowerPoint presentations and public displays during meetings. Rogers said he is currently getting quotes for the project.
In other business:
Marie Cartwright was elected as chairwoman for 2012 and as the representative to the Cardinal Joint Fire District. Tony Bettile was elected to vice chair.
It was reported the township is working on the final edit of a joint Canfield map along with the city.
