During a special meeting of the Austintown Township Board of Trustees on Friday, Jan. 13, Laurie Wolfe was appointed to fill the position of fiscal officer through March 31. She will finish out the term of Michael Kurish, who submitted his letter of resignation on Jan. 5 citing personal reasons.
Wolfe is not new to the position as she has worked for the township in prior years. After graduating from Austintown Fitch in 1987, Wolfe went on to Youngstown State University to obtain her degree in accounting. She put her skills to work from 1992 to 2005 in the township's accounting department.
"When I saw that Mike had resigned, I realized this is a crucial time of the year," Wolfe said. "With my knowledge and expertise, I thought I could be helpful while the township is looking to permanently fill the position."

Austintown Township Board Chairman Dave Ditzler congratulates Laurie Wolfe following a special meeting on Friday, after she was appointed to serve as fiscal officer for the balance of former fiscal officer Mike Kurish.
Wolfe will fill out the present term, which runs to March 31. Her appointment buys the township some time to consider filling the job for the next term beginning April 1.
Because Kurish had run unopposed and was elected to the four-year term commencing April 1, he will have to resign from that term as well.
If and when he does resign, trustees will have to fill the term from April 1 through 2013. In November of that year, the position will be again placed on the ballot.
Wolfe said, "This is something I enjoy. If all works out, I would love to do it on a more permanent basis."
